Former FBI head James the former director has denied the charges to making false statements to US legislators and obstructing a congressional proceeding.

Mr Comey's legal representative entered the plea on his behalf in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on mid-week.

The defense lawyer declared he would seek to have the proceedings dismissed for multiple reasons including that his defendant, a opponent of former President Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was charged just days after Donald Trump pressured his top legal official to move forward against him.

Court Developments

In court on Wednesday, his attorney the legal representative informed the court they intended to file multiple legal requests to terminate the case before a court case, arguing the government's case was vindictive and that a federal prosecutor was unlawfully appointed to take over the proceedings.

The former director's legal matter was initially managed by a Virginia prosecutor, who left his position under influence from the former president after his probe into a different opponent - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.

Courtroom Atmosphere

James Comey appeared in positive mood as he entered the courtroom on Wednesday, speaking with his legal team and sharing humor. He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Failor and offspring his daughter, a US lawyer who the previous administration terminated.

Following the reading to the court recite his constitutional guarantees and the two counts against him in legal proceedings on mid-week, Mr Comey was questioned if he grasped the accusations.

"Yes your honour. Appreciate it," he told the judge.

Historical Information

James Comey was the head of the FBI from four years and was dismissed about four months into the former president's first term as national leader. At the period, the director was overseeing an examination into foreign election meddling and whether there were any relationships between Russia and the election effort.

While in office, Mr Comey caused a negative reaction from liberal politicians when he stated just shortly prior to the national vote that he was examining Democratic candidate the candidate's use of a personal email system. Legal actions against Clinton were never brought, causing negative feedback from conservative politicians as well.

Ongoing Accusations

Government attorneys allege Mr Comey lied to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They say he provided false information to the legislative body by claiming he had not permitted an individual at the agency to release to news outlets information about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also charge James Comey of "improperly attempting to influence, hinder and slow" the legislative group by making false statements to it.

Public Statements

Via social media the former director posted to his social media after he was charged, he declared he was not guilty and alleged the former president of conducting himself like a "dictator".

"We have known for a long time that there are ramifications to standing up to Mr Trump," he commented. "We refuse to live on our kneeling."

"I have done nothing wrong," he continued. "So let's have a court case."

The accusations against Mr Comey came after Donald Trump shared on social media demanding his attorney general, the attorney general, take legal action against the former director and others.
