Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident happened on the third lap when marshals were seen on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his pit wall engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I arrived at Turn One and suddenly there were two guys dashing across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track marshals can be authorized to just dash across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the FIA, is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was informed that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the regulatory authority

"During the third lap, track officials were alerted and made ready to go onto the racing surface and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the orders to send personnel were canceled and a safety warning flag was shown in that area"

"We are still investigating what happened after that point"
