Any organization head will tell you leading a global tour is far from a typical workday.

Newly appointed Women's Tennis Association (WTA) chair Valerie Camillo is familiar with dedicated effort through her career - including one in a strategic role of the entertainment company managing American celebrated artist Dolly Parton's tourist attractions.

In addition to the expertise into Parton's business interests, Camillo arrives at the leadership of women's tennis bringing extensive background across sport and entertainment, with past roles in key executive jobs at the top professional basketball organization, the premier ice hockey competition and Major League Baseball (MLB).

Camillo commences her tenure at the WTA this November, succeeding the veteran Steve Simon, whose 10-year tenure wraps up as he steps down.

As Camillo begins her new role on 17 November, she steps into facing significant matters faced by her predecessor.

Within athletics, Camillo will utilize her expertise through managing the business operations of the Philadelphia Flyers professional squad - including transforming the team's stadium as top facility - and serving as revenue head with the MLB franchise sports entity.

Her understanding regarding business complexity of America's biggest sports - specifically their methods for fan growth and draw financial backing using new ideas - regarded as a key reason in her selection.

Joining women's tennis arrives during "a moment of accelerated growth and opportunity", says the WTA.

This is the moment for women's sport. Revenue generated across women's sport recently exceeded one billion dollars and market researchers anticipate it will hit $2.5bn (£1.8bn) within six years.

Her primary objective involves securing the tour and top players - featuring Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek - obtain meaningful share of the expanding market.

"We have the biggest women's sports stars in the world and hold advantageous standing in women's sports," leadership commented.

"In women's competitions, sponsorship, fans and attention expand significantly.

"Generally the challenge for women's sports is building awareness, gaining audience and engagement," stated the chair.

"Our challenge is a little different - with over five decades of history, possessing remarkable tradition, a billion viewers globally, and including highly visible, best-rewarded players globally."
